At Pelvic Health and Healing, we offer a menu of physical examination options. In all four options, the goal is to gather information to help you better understand your core and pelvic floor. Please know that you can change your mind about the chosen option at any time.

1. Feedback-Based Assessment: You remain fully dressed and will be asked to sit on a ball or place your hands in a specific position to provide feedback about your pelvic floor movement.

2. Non-Contact Visual Exam: You are undressed from the waist down, and I will visually observe your pelvic floor without touching. A mirror is available if you would like to see what I am seeing.

3. External Assessment: You are undressed from the waist down, and I will use external touch to assess the movement and coordination of your pelvic floor muscles.

4. Internal Assessment: This is not a typical gynecology exam; I do not use a speculum. I will use a gloved finger at your vaginal or anal opening to check the strength, coordination, endurance, and relaxation ability of your muscles.

What can I expect in Pelvic Floor Therapy?

  • Knowledge is Empowerment

When we are experiencing challenges with our health, it can feel like our body isn’t familiar anymore. It is frustrating when “things aren’t working the way they are supposed to.” In pelvic floor therapy, we will guide you to a clearer understanding how your body works and how to be a detective of your own body. These tools can help you harness a sense of control that will benefit you even after you finish therapy.

  • We All Have a Story

Are you seeking therapy now because of your birth story? Are you a cancer warrior? Are you looking for way out of persistent pain? Have mid-life changes blind-sided you? We all love a good story and every hero has to face a challenge before the triumphant finish.

It can be hard to be vulnerable and ask for help. Many individuals wait years before they seek for the relief they need. Living with a pelvic floor imbalance can affect our mental health, our social life, our relationships, our ability to participate in work and recreational activities. These are the activities that add meaning to our lives.

“How will your life look different if pelvic floor therapy works for you?"

  • Why are you seeking help now?

Pelvic floor therapy is more than just the pelvis. The healing process works best when we can take into account the holistic nature of our lives. What matters to us, who matters to us, and how can pelvic floor therapy get you feeling “back on track”?

Through this holisitic lens, we will address how the physical symptoms you’re experiencing are woven in to the habits and routines in your life. In addition, using a trauma-informed approach recognizes the integral role our nervous system plays in recovery. This knowledge will guide you with the tools that you need to help you feel like yourself again.
